CPD Community Conversations

Hope that you are able to devote some of your valuable time and talent to helping the Chicago Police Department (CPD) better collaborate to improve peace and safety in every part of the city.

CPD is seeking community input on an initial series of policies and procedures as part of its ongoing reform efforts. I am reaching out to invite you to attend any of four Community Conversations that will be held during the first week of February (see logistics information below). These meetings are open to the public; please share this information with your networks! During these conversations we will solicit input on the topics below:

• Community Policing Strategies

• Use of Force

• Mental Health Incident Response (Crisis Intervention)

• Response to Hate Crimes

• Prohibition of Sexual Misconduct

• Supervisor Responsibilities

• Interactions with Children and Youth

• Body-Worn Camera Use

• Officer-Involved Death and Shooting Investigations

• Interactions with People with Disabilities

• Interactions with the Transgender Community

• Limited English Proficiency and Language Access

• Interactions with Religious Communities

• School Resource Officers (SRO)

CPD may also convene Working Groups that will meet separately over the course of the coming months to provide a deeper level of input on some or all of the topics above. Please complete this brief survey to inform CPD of the Working Groups, if any, in which you would be interested in participating.

We very much appreciate your input on these important subjects, and hope that you will join us in early February to kick off the input process at one of the public meetings below. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to me via phone or email with any questions.
