A Busy January at the Chicago Public Library – Uptown Branch

Kids’ New Year’s Eve Celebration!

Ring out the old year, ring in the new!  Dress in your most glamorous outfit and come celebrate with a countdown to noon.  Create your own beautiful, crazy, surprising, marvelous or amazing hat. Write a letter to your future self, or a New Year’s resolution.  Make a noisemaker. You might even dance! Kids under 11 years of age must be accompanied by an adult.  Tuesday, December 31 from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon.

Play Date

Get out of the house and meet up with old friends or make new ones at our open play time. We’ll put out our puzzles, puppets, blocks and more for the little ones to play with. Bring your coffee, grown-ups, and relax with other families of young children. All children must be accompanied by an adult, of course.  Saturday, January 4 from 9:30 until 11:30 a.m.

Explorers’ Club

Once a month, drop in for a STEAM activity for school-age kids. Robots, slime, science experiments, engineering … it’s something new every time! For kids ages 6 to 11 on Saturday, January 4 from 2:00 until 3:00 p.m.

Kids’ Book Club

Like to read? Like to talk? Like to eat snacks? The Kids’ Book Club is for you! Kids ages 8 to 11 should pick up a copy of Amulet Book One: The Stonekeeper by Kazu Kibuishi at the Circulation Desk. Read it and come talk about it with other kids on Saturday, January 11 from 3:30 until 4:00 p.m.
