December Activities at the Chicago Public Library Uptown Branch

For Babies

Book Babies, a series for babies not yet walking and their caregivers, runs on Mondays through December 18.  This is a special time for parents or caregivers to focus on and bond with their babies while building the very earliest foundation for literacy. You’ll have a chance to socialize with other participants at the end of each session. There is space in both the morning (11:00 – 11:30 a.m.) and afternoon (1:30 – 2:00 p.m.) classes.  To register, please contact Children’s Librarian Laura Jenkins and let her know your baby’s name and age, your phone number, and whether you’d like to be in the morning or afternoon class.

 For Toddlers

Toddler Story Time is a thirty-minute program full of fun with stories, rhymes, and songs to help your child develop early literacy skills. You’ll get tips on incorporating talking, singing, reading, writing and playing into your day as a way to grow a young reader. Toddler Story Time, for children 18 to 36 months and their caregivers, meets on Wednesdays in December from 10:30 until 11:00 a.m., with time afterward for free play with blocks, puppets and puzzles. Younger children are welcome, also! No registration is required. Please email Children’s Librarian Laura Jenkins or call 312-744-8400 if you have any questions.

For School Age Children

Elementary school children can drop in to get free help with homework from an accredited teacher.  Miss Emily is available Mondays – Thursdays, 3:00 – 6:00 p.m. Please email Children’s Librarian Laura Jenkins or call 312-744-8400 if you have any questions.

And, once school is out, the 2017/2018 Winter Learning Challenge, Enter for Engineering, will take place from December 18, 2017 through January 8, 2017. Children have until January 16 to return completed logs to receive a prize.
