Why: To hear from Alderman Cappleman, Cook Country Commissioner Bridget Gainer, and Buena Park Neighbors regarding community projects for 2012, including the vacant lot at Sheridan and Irving Park.

Alderman James Cappleman has called a meeting to discuss the proposed development at the abandoned Maryville site at Montrose and Clarendon. This is an important meeting. Sedgwick Properties and the Uptown Coalition for Responsible Development will both be presenting their positions on this issue. This is a major development that will have a significant impact on our neighborhood for years to come. You will have an opportunity to ask questions of both sides, so plan on joining us for this very important meeting.

Litter Patrol

Time: 10 am to noon

Where: The old KFC parking lot at Buena and Broadway

Purpose: To pick up trash in the neighborhood

This is one way that we, the residents of Buena Park, keep our community clean. Once a month a dedicated group of neighbors meet at the abandoned KFC lot and spread out from there to remove litter from our streets. Come and join your neighbors as we send a message to the rest of the community that we care about our environment. Afterward we’ll meet at a local establishment for lunch and lively conversation. Join us to find out more about Buena Park Neighbors and what we’re doing to keep Buena Park Clean, Green, and Safe.

If it is snowing, we won’t go out

Name the Winter Fundraiser Contest – Win $100.00

Here’s the deal. We’re having a winter fundraiser on Saturday, January 28, 2012. This is the weekend between the NFL playoffs and the Super Bowl, but we don’t have a good name for our event. So we’re offering a $100.00 prize to the person who comes up with the best name. E-mail your entry to Buena Park Neighbors and we’ll put you into the contest (enter as many times as you like). We have an expert panel of judges who will be voting on the winning name. If you win, we’ll give you $100.00 in cold cash to spend anyway you please.

What: Buena Park Neighbors Winter Fundraiser

Where: Nick’s Uptown

When: January 28, 2012

Time: 6 pm to 10 pm

Cost: $25 per person

What you get: All the draft beer you want; all the pizza you want; raffle prizes; 50/50 drawings; pool; shuffleboard; and a two-hour show by the popular band Jin and Tonic.

This is a great deal no matter how you look at it, but we need a catchy name to promote the event. So here’s how you enter:

Think up a catchy title for the fundraiser and e-mail it to us at Buena Park Neighbors by midnight on Friday, December 16, 2011.

We will announce the winner on Monday, December 19th, at our Christmas/Holiday Party at the World Gym (see below). You don’t have to be there to win-we’ll send a personal e-mail to notify you and to set up a time to hand over the cash.

Litter Patrol

KFC Parking lot at Buena and Broadway

We will be conducting our monthly Litter Patrol this Saturday. We’ll start at the abandoned KFC parking lot at 10 am and work until noon. Afterwards, for those who wish, we’ll go to lunch for some good social time.

Bring your own gloves; we will supply plastic bags, brooms and dust pans.
